NIENKE
I am currently making an image for a contest that is horrendously complex, with over twelve source photos from seven different stock artists. I needed a break, so I challenged myself to make a pic in 3 or 4 hours, with all the bases from the same source. I’ve been asked for another centaur by a few people, and I really wanted to make something from Grinmir-stock to say thanks for the support. So here it is. The horse is a Friesian. The breed comes from Frisia, part of the Netherlands, so I looked for a name in the Frisian language. Nienke is the Frisian diminutive of Katherine. I’ve altered the shape of the chest a little, but I’ve kept most of the horse the same. This beautiful animal just radiates strength and power, and I didn’t want to lose any of that. Besides, a female can be muscular and strong. The model is Marie - Grinmir herself. The costume and weapon are unchanged, but the hair has been completely reworked to blend with the horse. The mane contains elements from both the horse and the woman, and also a great deal of over-painting as well to strike a balance between the silkiness of human hair and the coarseness of horse hair.
