Go here [link] for the text of the lyric and a link to the mp3 of the song.

The Burren –the region and my song
This is a song I wrote a long while back, before my health hassles stopped me from singing. It was a tribute to one of my favourite places in the world – the Burren in County Clare. The scenery there is amazing, and it’s also the home of wonderful traditional Irish music, especially in a small town called Doolin. The musicians there really encouraged and supported my traditional Irish singing, while the land and seascapes simply inspired me.

The Burren is an area full of great significance to the Irish people, both ancient and modern. It contains numerous monuments ranging from stone-age to late 19th century, and also many sites of religious significance from both pre-Christian and Christian times. This sense of layer upon layer of history and spirituality, joined with layer upon layer of abandonment and loss is what inspired my song, and my artwork. This link is one of the best sources of information about this area. [link]

Making the Image
Here’s a link to a before and after montage to show you just how much I’ve changed things, and hopefully a little of why I did it. [link]

I have taken a lot of liberties with the geography of West Clare. Although I have tried my best to make this a photorealistic landscape it doesn’t represent a real view – more a view that contains most of the elements of Doolin and The Burren that have a deep meaning for me. I’ve heavily manipped the area of flat “;pavement” stone in order to give a sense of depth while still showing the strange and wonderful textures and shapes. I’ve also added a standing stone from elsewhere. I’ve changed the castle drive and wall to fit the needs of the composition.

Thanks for the link. I have been incredibly spoilt when it comes to hearing Irish musicians - not just in concert too. We used to go to Clare every year or so, and we also went to many folk festivals in the UK and heard people like The Dubliners mucking about in the bars :D

Ah how I envy you I have allways wanted to visit the places my Celts ancestors called home but have never gotten the chance the only Irish bar in town closed a few years ago so there has been no where in town to hear the songs anymore

Here's a link to a shop we found in Clare [link] You can buy online from them, if you are interested. I was also lucky enough to hear a traditional Nordic fiddler at one of the fold festivals I went to, so your Viking heritage is also a source of glorious ,usic :D
