Liriel_by_kiwidoc by kiwidoc Liriel_by_kiwidoc by kiwidoc
Please look at this in full view – you miss so much if you don’t
This is a portrait of Liriel, the maiden of Starlight and Shadows in Elaine Cunningham’s books. She a Drow from the Underdark, one of the dark elves from the Forgotten Realms. She has the ebony skin and white hair of all Drow, but she has unusual amber eyes rather than the normal red. I have pictured her at the beginning of the series while she still has strong bonds to Lolth the evil Spider Queen, but for the first time she is discovering the beauty of the surface world.
To represent her ties to Lolth I used images of dew drops on a spider web to create her jewelry, and the silver net over her upper torso. As the original model had very curly hair falling over her brow I had to use another model for the forehead, temples and hair. It is a real challenge blending stark white hair with very dark skin, and I hope my technique has worked.
This manip was almost all made on a borrowed PC, with a slightly unfamiliar version of Photoshop, and none of my usual plug-ins. I also had to use a mouse I find really awkward – so be forgiving when you look at it :D

Very impressive work! The way you melded the two different models heads to get the effect of the hair you wanted is flawless. The jewelry from dewdrops on a spider web is ingenious and very creative! The work that you put into this is evident, especially when viewing the stocks that were used! (which I love to do) Lovely work!

Thank you so very much. I really appreciate comments from someone who has taken the time to see what the stock I used actually looked like. I always try to do that myself when looking at other people's work.
I tried using the cobweb as just a web in another pic, and as soon as it was on a dark background it just begged to be jewelry instead.

I always pictured her (in mind) with a longer hair, but as much as I love the character I love your work. ^^

Many, many thanks. I really love Liriel as well. I was just browsing through hi res female bases and I saw this one ... and I said "That's Liriel!" It's the way she looks so entranced that made me think of Liriel's first trip to the forests, that and the lovely planes and lines of her face.

I wanted a longer braid as well - but couldn't find anything else in high enough res to use. There is a pretty limited range of colours I can use to make white hair. What I REALLY wanted was lots of small ver long braids ... but no way could I find that :(

wow you really got that touch of inspiration with it and you've thought it so well ^^
I can believe you that's not easy to find the right hair, (though I have no bit of experience with photo-manipulations), but I simply thought it was a "full-premeditation" to picture her with short braid, to show her more tomboyish ( though it's not the best word here, I hope you know what I mean) side. ^^

I think it works better than a really intricate hairdo would have - as you said it shows her adventuring, free spirit :D

Thanks hon. I could only change the colour of the brows as the lighting and focus was just so good in the base. But I still chickened out of making white eye-lashes

The details are awesome. The shading is consistent and well thought out. I thought that you had dabbled in 3D model making for a moment. :applause:
